You Deserve It All

“The only answer that the Bible gives to the question “why did God?” Is ‘for His glory’” J.I Packard

The praise of God’s glory is a result of His action - we praise God because of the things that He has done, the doing comes first and then comes the praise, but it is not as common for us to affirm the belief that the praise of His glory is actually the goal of all of His action, it is not only the ending point but the starting point and everything in between and this is irrefutably displayed throughout all of Scripture.

Everything that God does is for His own glory. Everything that God permits is for His own glory. Everything that God pursues is for His own glory. When God acts, it is for the sake of His own name. This truth is threaded throughout the entire Bible, but let me give you just a few verses to ponder!

“For my own sake, for my own sake I do it, for how should my name be profaned? My glory I will not give to another” (Isa 48:11)

“Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth, everyone who is called by name whom I created for my glory” (Isaiah 43:6-7)

“Yet He saved them for His names sake, that He might display His mighty power” (Psalm 106:7-8) “For I will defend this city and save it, for my own sake” (2 Kings 19:34)

“In the same way let your light shine before man that they might see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (John 14:13)

“He predestined us in love to be sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will to the praise of His glory: (Ephesians 1:5-6)

“When He comes on that day to be glorified in His saints and to be marveled at among all who have believed” (2 Thess. 1:10)

If it is true that God is supremely zealous for His own glory, then it is also true that human beings, having been created in His image, also supremely exist to bring Him glory.

God’s glory is the ultimate end of all that He does and thus should be the ultimate aim of all that we do. The exaltation of His name and the treasuring of His goodness was never meant to be an afterthought, but rather a motivating force that fuels every waking moment of our lives.

We exist to proclaim the excellencies of our God. To point to Him. To unapologetically draw attention to Him. To put Him on full display, not only in moments of singing to and about Him, but we also make much of His worth with our very lives!

He not only DESERVES it all, but He demands it all. Time and time again throughout Scripture we see a jealous God calling His people out of half heartedness and idolatry and into full devotion. Thousands of years later that is still what He longs for from those who are His. He is still after a people who are just as zealous about the exaltation of His name as He is. So today I encourage you to look for ways, extravagant or mundane, to make much of the only one who truly deserves it all!!!
